HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

The Human Resources Manager provides leadership aimed at helping Vision Truck Group achieve its organizational objectives. This employee will support growth and profitability by developing and executing H/R strategies and championing the company’s investment in human capital by leading the H/R function to deliver measurable results. The Human Resources Manager works as a strategic partner with the Vice-President and the rest of the Executive Team. This individual oversees the People & Culture, Staff Relations, Benefits, Training & Development, Disability Claims, Corporate Health & Safety functions at Vision Truck Group and ensures processes are in place for the smooth operation of these functions. The incumbent presents strategies to various stakeholders, as necessary.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coaching

  • Over see the work of and provide direction to the Human Resources Department, coach and mentor these employees through ongoing one-on-ones and by providing departmental development opportunities.
  • Lead in evaluation, selection, implementation, and training of new Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Plan and provide organization development strategy, direction, advice, and counsel to the Vice-President and President as required.
  • Contribute to development of leadership-focused development strategies including talent and performance management.
  • Provide guidance for change management initiatives and support team through changes. 
  • Support and educate departmental team leads in providing consultancy for managers on various issues. Create and conduct management Training Program.
  • Make recommendations to the executive team using evidence-based research

Management

  • Manage a variety of human resource services, policies, and programs that support internal equity and ensure VTG's competitive advantage. Create and maintain company's Mission, Vision, and Values. 
  • Manage, develop and enforce company policies and procedures. 
  • Forecast and identify emerging issues, trends and problems that affect Vision Truck Group and recommend action plan.
  • Identify and address issues that affect the overall health of the organization's morale, effectiveness, turn over, absenteeism, and productivity.
  • Review, guide, and approve employee suspensions and terminations.
  • Monitor all pay practices and systems for effectiveness and cost containment.
  • Evaluate jobs, create job descriptions and conduct wage reviews.
  • Present project ideas to the executive team and work with team to implement approved projects.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Recruiting & Selection

  • Participate in recruitment and selection, promotions, transfers, contact negotiation, job classification, performance, evaluation and employee relations according to policies and procedures. 
  • Review new ways of attracting top talent and ensure that the Company has an emergency succession plan in place for unforeseen key staffing changes.
  • Conducting applicant screening and supporting interviews as required
  • Creation of offer packages

Legislation

  • Research and keep informed of new developments within the human resources' field and implement changes where needed to ensure competitive advantage and appropriate strategy
  • Sustain and develop knowledge and understanding of existing legislation and ensure compliance with all legislative (i.e. federal and provincial) requirements, labour laws, regulations, etc.

Employee Relations

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding company policies and procedures, benefits, and pension.
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with all levels of employees within the Organization.
  • In conjunction with Vice President, analyze benefit programs and alternatives and service as a primary contact with service providers.

Engagement

  • Support employee engagement and corporate workplace culture initiatives that benefit organizational performance.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Company's Mission, Vision, and Values.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in the Human Resources' field.
  • CHRP designation or equivalent educational and/or business experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' work experience in Human Resources required. Experience in the transportation industry preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strategic objectives and manage Human Resources' core processes. Proven project management skills required.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills.
  • Sound leadership, staff management and teambuilding skills.
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe products and e-mail required.
  • Experience with HRIS considered an asset.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners and employees.
  • Demonstrate ability to have a positive impact on business results.
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning.
  • Must hold a valid drivers license.  

 

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, 7:30a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Some overtime and travel may be required. Ability to attend and conduct presentations. Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. Will be required to make decisions with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle pressure in a fast-paced environment.
